Yellow tea is known as fresh or spring tea and is a good example of the skill of Chinese tea making. This is one of only a few still made being a rare bud tea, picked before the white downiness appears. It is mild and light having a delicate bamboo-like nose. Unusually it is pan heated then gently steamed for several hours over three days, a process known as sealed yellowing or 'men huan' whilst being covered with a cloth to enable the aromas to be re-absorbed. The tea is then pan-fired. It is therefore time-consuming to pick and process in this unique way. The liquor is fresh, sweet with nutty notes. In the cup it is smooth, sweet, vegetal with banana and sweet-corn characteristics. A really beautiful, refreshing tea with a distinctively lush taste. Infuse three grams per cup for four minutes at around 80 degrees C.
\r
Tea from Grey's Teas
\r
Our teas are loose leaf and we specialise in large leaf grades.
