Loose Black Tea

Loose Black Tea: Buy the best from China, Assam, Darjeeling, Nilgiri, Nepal, Ceylon & Kenya.

Black tea is perhaps the most familiar to us. These are allowed to oxidise during manufacture but there are considerable variations in method. This gives black tea immense variety of character. Our loose black tea includes Darjeeling, Assam, Nilgiri, Nepalese, China, Ceylon and Kenyan teas.
Our are only made by the orthodox method and we have the best quality large leaf grades. Once torn and rolled the green leaves turn black as a natural consequence of being exposed to the air.
This tea is drunk either with or without milk. This depends upon whether it is a light or a full bodied. China and Darjeeling teas are light and are therefore best without. Lapsang Souchong, more full bodied Keemuns and Yunnan are exceptions. Assam, Ceylon, and especially Dimbula teas are more full bodied and therefore should be drunk with milk. All black tea has varying amounts of tannin and this gives it a dry, biscuity character in common.

Service rating : We were a little disappointed that we could not get the cheaper version of Yunnan we had ordered in the past, but as Greys gave us a loyalty discount of £6 and free delivery we were quite happy with the result.
Product : I love Yunnan tea, and Greys are the only regular suppliers we have found for this. /Thank you

As usual, the tea arrived quickly, in a lovely pizza-style box, inside which are the wonderful 3-layer tea bags (paper, aluminium foil & mylar). BTW I HATE it when the website questions my spelling of aluminium. This is the bloody UK, twerps!
But to continue.
The Ti Kuan Yin (Tie Guan Yin, fooh!) is superb, a hearty greenish oolong. The Darj. is a repeat purchase, well-known on my shelf. The Keemun I haven't tasted for decades, & am looking forward to renewing my acquaintance. And the Oodoowerre... I am keenly anticipating this.
I shall report on the Greys webite in due course.

Service rating : Quick delivery and strong packaging to protect tea. Great selection with good photos of tea and description. I find I need a notepad and pencil as the subdivided sections make it a little time consuming to compare prices and tasting notes. Best tea supplier I've used so far.
Product : Rounded flavour. Not astringent. Good value.
