English Breakfast loose tea: our large leaf tea blend contains Assam, Ceylon and a little Darjeeling

These carefully chosen teas make our English Breakfast loose tea a rich malty tea. It has some lightness due to the addition of Darjeeling teas and is ideal as an accompaniment to a traditional English breakfast yet it is not a ‘builder’s tea’. A great way to start the day and keep you sustained during the morning. Once you have had this superior English breakfast loose tea you will not want another! Use one teaspoon per cup and one for the pot with freshly boiling water and infuse for three minutes.

“English breakfast “my get out of bed brew. Can’t do anything until I have had two large mugs. Why anyone would use tea bags is beyond me.”
Really nice cup of tea “A great all-rounder, and not just for breakfast.”
“One of the best English Breakfast blends I ever tried.”
A family favourite “This is the tea I offer at family get togethers. it is middle-of-the-road in terms of flavour: not so malty as Assam Harmuty [which is my favourite all-day tea] and less delicate than Nepal Kathmandu [brilliant early morning tea] or Darjeeling. It is also strong, bright and refreshing – the best English Breakfast blend”
A tea to look forward to! “After trying this tea (and becoming familiar with it) for several months, we really do enjoy it. It has just the right weight and blend for the morning – especially the first cup of the day, which we always look forward to. We missed it when we ran out – so we won’t let that happen again!”
Delicious at all times of the day. “Excellent blend full of flavour and good for any time of day.”
Excellent Breakfast Tea “This provides the perfect first cup of the day – enough body to wake you up but not overbearing. Also delicious at any other time of day.”
Breakfast is ready! “A nice accompaniment to my cooked vegetarian breakfast.”
Good breakfast tea. “Literally it does what it says on the tin, a good interesting breakfast tea. Good flavour but not overpowering. Much better than any mass commercial brands that I have tasted.”
Interesting and enjoyable “A personal favourite – easy and interesting to drink.”

Tea from Grey’s Teas

Our teas are loose leaf and we specialise in large leaf grades. All are made using traditional orthodox methods. Our teas are from named tea gardens or defined areas of origin.

Sourcing our tea

This English Breakfast loose tea has been chosen for its distinctive, balanced flavour, aroma and appearance. Our tea is carefully sourced from long-established shippers. We can therefore guarantee the quality and origin of each tea and that it conforms to UK food and drink health regulations and our own demanding grading requirements.

The benefits of loose leaf tea

This loose leaf tea enables the full flavour characteristics of the tea to infuse. This tea is chosen for its high grade which imparts the flavour and aroma characteristics for which this tea is best known. A little extra time is necessary when infusing large leaf grades but you will be rewarded with a superior, more balanced cup. You will be well rewarded for your patience!

Packing options

There are generally several packing options to choose from. These are 60 grams, 125 grams and 250 grams, the default being 125 grams in a packet. Our silver-coloured packets are a triple laminate of paper, foil and cellophane, specifically designed for tea. Alternatively, you can select a tin caddy for your tea. These square, silver coloured caddies have hinged lids. Again, 60 gram, 125 gram and 250 gram options are generally available as options which can be selected from the drop-down list. Packets and caddies have full-colour labels.

Delivery options

For delivery our standard shipping is second class post unless you choose an alternative option such as first class post or courier. Free UK shipping is available for orders over £30 and free first class post can be chosen for orders over £50.

Storing your tea

Store your tea with care by ensuring it is stored air-tight, away from heat, light, moisture and strong aromas. Our standard best-before period is one year from packing and all teas are packed to order.

  1. Gary

Just purchased this tea for the second time and it a very good refreshing tea for any time of the day.

  2. admin

I was concerned to hear about the lack of sealing. The tins should be taped closed. The label seals smaller tins and features a perforation.

  3. admin

You may prefer the Good Morning! blend which is more full bodied. Our English Breakfast contains some Darjeeling which gives it a slightly lighter body.

  4. giantjellybabybags

Clean tasting and refreshing. It tastes as described, with a little lightness. Entirely personally, I prefer a slight richer cup so 4* (tho that does seems a bit unfair) . Quick delivery and well packaged. Nice big leaves.

  5. Andrew Albert Hall

usually drink Yorkshire tea (sawdust like tea leaves) but tried something that tastes more exotic and refreshing (massive tea leaves), great tea and will probably change my drinking habits now.

  6. Chris

Haven’t ordered this for some time, but it was a joy to be re-acquainted. An excellent blend that is invigorating but not overpowering.

  7. Valerie Gordon-Walker

    Simply delicious.
    Loved this tea.
Seems sensible to support the smaller independent companies offering such superb quality combined with professional and courteous service.
    Well done Greys teas.

  8. H Davies

Light but full flavoured breakfast tea – just right for the first cup of tea of the day, and it has also become a firm favourite.
Well pleased with the good service and prompt delivery from Greys – glad to have discovered them.

Has become a standard at breakfast. Well balanced. Grey’s offer quality and a comprehensive range.

Has become a standard for me.

A regular – always reliably flavoursome. The ideal breakfast tea.

Has become a firm favourite and the perfect breakfast tea.

A balanced , softer breakfast tea with a creamy, malty, finish. Perfect start to the day.

After many years of indulging the generally indifferent presentations of supermarket loose-leaf teas I chanced upon Richard Grey’s site, and for my first order selected two blends, English Breakfast and Russian Caravan. The teas arrived promptly, neatly packaged in their resealable packets.
Both teas were a delight – refreshing, well defined notes and of excellent quality.
Heartily encouraged by my initial experience with Grey’s Teas, and looking forward to continued tea adventures!

I have been searching for an English Breakfast blend for some time looking for a bright, strongish flavour from the traditional teas associated with this blend which are usually combined to give a good, brisk morning lift when drunk black rather than spoiled with milk. Many supposed English breakfast blends ,I was surprised to find , are largely Assam , a lovely tea but too mahagony for first thing . This Greys blend is perfect.

  16. admin

This is a lighter style English Breakfast containing some Darjeeling and China Keemun. For a more robust cup try our Good Morning! blend. Alternatively try a pure Assam, Kenya or Yunnan tea.

  17. admin

This is a lighter style English Breakfast tea as it contains Darjeeling. Try our Good Morning! blend for a fuller bodied taste.

  18. bob1

A disappointment! Greatly lacking in body and really not a good start to the day. I was looking for something that would gratify a builder:-)
Excellent service from Grey’s, of course.

  19. Derek

Our ‘go to’ tea for everyday. Well balanced flavour that stays drinkable through at least one refill of the pot making it excellent value for money.

  29. Marie Mason

Product: My favourite tea at any time of the day
    Service: excellent

  30. Paul Wilkes

Product: Just bland. I’ve since tried both the English Breakfast Tea and Good Afternoon Tea and I feel I was a bit harsh with my comments. Made with honey they are pleasant teas.
Service: Not what I expected. I’ve been trying to find a tea that tastes like it used to – with flavour. Unfortunately, the two teas that I tried from Greys did not really hit the right note.
Vendor response: I am sorry that you did not enjoy this tea. Perhaps it was made insufficiently strong. We find this is a popular tea which generally receives good reviews.

    Richard Grey

  31. Richard Clifton

Product: Love this blend, really good breakfast tea
Service: Tea was great and delivered as expected

  32. Tammy Hardy

Product: Very nice blend indeed, very pleased.
Service: The website is impressive and easy to use with a good selection of teas. I am pleased with the service and with the size of the samples. If I were to suggest an area for improvement it would be the tins or labels.

  33. Derek Smith

    Service: Usual rapid service

  34. Marie Mason

    Product: Delicious
    Service: Excellent

  35. Michael Scholl

    Service: quick and efficient service

  36. Derek Smith

Service: I like the range of teas and speed of service. I have 2 comments about the website:-
    1. ordering is a slow process. Price is a factor in what I order but I only find the price once I’ve clicked all the way through to the product. It would be useful to have that information upfront.
    2. I have been trying to find a way to use a different delivery address but haven’t been able to find it.
Vendor response: Thank you for your constructive comments.
    1. On 21st February we introduced various changes to our shopping basket and checkout which we hope will make shopping quicker and easier. We realise that having the price with the tea details can be inconvenient but many customers prefer to have all the tea details on a single page.
    2. If you wish to ship to an address other than your billing address please tick the box ‘deliver to a different address’.
    I hope this helps.

    Richard Grey

  37. J K Mcghee

Service: The website needs to reflect the pricing better I.e. The drop down should price per weight band that you sell
Vendor response: I am puzzled. Each product page does, have a drop-down menu showing the packing combinations for that tea such as 125g or 250g, packet or tin caddy.

    Richard Grey

  38. Ingrid Rock

    Service: always top quality

  39. Rupert Knowles

Service: But I wish they would stop bombarding me with emails, offers, surveys etc. When I run out and want more tea, I will order it………but you could turn me away with all this rubbish!
Vendor response: I am sorry you feel we are bombarding you with emails. Customers receive two emails per month if you have elected to have them. Feefo send an automated survey email a few days after shipping if you have purchased. We send no other emails. I hope this puts things in perspective.
