Description

Chinese Yixing Teapot & six cups: traditionally made from red clay

This traditionally small, lotus style, Chinese Yixing teapot is unglazed and designed for infusing oolong and pu-erh teas using the gongfu method. It is complete with six cups each embossed in the base with a lotus flower. It is made near the town of Yixing in Jiangsu Province with red zisha clay.

Pottery has been made here for the past 4500 years. The pot is signed on the base and has a well fitted lid with the potter's chop mark. The surfaces do not impart any aroma and will gain a fine patina with repeated use. It is important that each teapot is reserved for the brewing of one type of tea such as oolongs or green tea. Do not use these teapots for scented teas such as jasmine as the surface will absorb the taste which will taint other teas.

The set is packed in a substantial fabric covered presentation box. Inside the orange coloured fabric covers the cushioning which has integral indentations for each item ensuring safety in transit. Please note that these sets are despatched to you by courier.

  1. Teapot capacity 300ml.
  2. To prepare tea using the gongfu method:
  3. Appreciate the aroma of the dry leaf and the tea at each stage.
  4. Wash teapot and cups with hot water before use.
  5. Three-quarters fill the pot with leaves.
  6. Fill with freshly boiled water that has cooled slightly.
  7. Discard the first infusion.

Add boiled water to the leaves again and infuse for one minute. Pour.

Add more boiled water. Infuse for slightly longer for each subsequent infusion. The third or fourth infusion is often considered the best.
