Rose Congou tea: traditional China tea

Rose Congou tea is produced by layering freshly picked rose petals with black tea. The petals are then removed and fresh ones added until the required intensity of flavour is produced. Having a subtle rose aroma the infusion is rich and bronze with little tannin. It is deeply and unmistakably rose on the palate without sweetness. Use one teaspoon per cup and one for the pot with freshly boiling water and infuse for three minutes. Lovely. Serve without milk.

"A lovely smooth tea ideal for drinking in the afternoon, with a good quality China tea used as a base and just the correct amount of Rose flavouring."
"A very original tea that I had been longing to try. Wild aroma and idea."
My favorite "It is not only visually appealing, it has such a smooth and delightful flavour that adds a soothing start to my morning or gentle slow down (but not too slow) to my afternoon."
"I bought this tea last year. I love the scent and taste of rose. It has a very soothing quality to it. It also reminds me of the tea I used to drink in Gurukul, India. I am unconventional in that I prefer this tea with a little milk and honey. But its a lovely blend."
Lovely teas and excellent service! "A friend bought me some rose congou for a gift and I was hooked! Searched online for a supplier and settled with Grey's for their informative, easily navigable website. I wasn't disappointed! Well packed fresh tea and fast delivery. Will buy from Grey's again and again. Highly Recommended."
Perfect rose flavour tea "This is our favourite all day tea. Best without milk. A lovely Chinese black tea, with roses."
A gorgeous drink "This traditional China tea is produced by tossing freshly picked rose petals onto black tea and mixing with natural rose oil. The cup is rich, dark with a subtle rose aroma and no tannin. A gorgeous drink. very nice, not too strong on the roses."

Tea from Grey's Teas

Our teas are loose leaf and we specialise in large leaf grades. All are made using traditional orthodox methods. Our teas are from named tea gardens or defined areas of origin.

Sourcing our tea

Rose Congou tea has been chosen for its distinctive, balanced flavour, aroma and appearance. Our tea is carefully sourced from long-established shippers. We can therefore guarantee the quality and origin of each tea and that it conforms to UK food and drink health regulations and our own demanding grading requirements.

The benefits of loose leaf tea

This loose leaf tea enables the full flavour characteristics of the tea to infuse. This tea is chosen for its high grade which imparts the flavour and aroma characteristics for which this tea is best known. A little extra time is necessary when infusing large leaf grades but you will be rewarded with a superior, more balanced cup. You will be well rewarded for your patience!

These square, silver coloured caddies have hinged lids. Again, 60 gram, 125 gram and 250 gram options are generally available as options which can be selected from the drop-down list. Packets and caddies have full-colour labels.

The flavour of this tea is just right . It is intense but not too cloying.

This is a nice tea with a hint of rose petals to it, in a pleasant Chinese black tea. Some Rose Congous are much more strongly rosy in taste, which have their virtues (you might want to have one of each), though I find that many people have a knee-jerk reaction to the notion of rose petal tea, and this one is really good because it is subtle, complementing the black tea and serving as a pleasant regular drink. So you can trick them! It can be taken with or without milk – purists would no doubt prefer the latter – but, hey, we’re in Britain, we learned from India to have milk in our tea in perhaps the seventeenth or eighteenth century, and this is what we like (might be something to do with our wet, grey climate). I recommend this tea – I actually bought a kilo of the stuff (saves on postage) and also received a free tea caddy with it! And it arrived quite quickly – this might sound trivial, but if you live where I do, near Land’s End in Cornwall, where the pigeons seem to fly slowly, you notice things like that!

  15. John Taylor (verified owner)

Have bought this tea many times before and always enjoy it although my last purchase had more rose petals than the current purchase. The rose smell is subtle on the leaf and is not overpowering when water is added. It is low in tannin and relatively inexpensive with a depth of flavour which is not too intense. A lovely every day tea.

  16. Luce Gilmore (verified owner)

Product: This is my standard rose-petal tea: distinctly rosy, but not in-yer-face boudoir juice that makes you think of cosmetics & Turkish Delight.
Service: The four 100g bags arrived an a neat pizza-style box, just one day after ordering. Grey’s tea packaging is excellent: inner paper sacks, then aluminium foil, then mylar film on the outside. No messing! They got the tea to me just as fast as possible, as well-presented as possible.

  17. Jane Hughes (verified owner)

Product: Excellent tea , full of flavour.
Service: They dealt with my order promptly and efficiently. The tea is great as well.
