Keemun Peony: a neat, hand-made China black tea with great character.
This superior quality Keemun Peony has a neat pine-needle leaf producing a subtly rich fruity liquor with a toasty character and delicate aroma. A classic 'Burgundy of teas' this is a truly beautiful tea that can be enjoyed afternoon or evening. If brewed stronger it can make a good breakfast tea. Use one teaspoon per person and one for the pot and infuse for three minutes. Best drunk without milk.
"This is such a rich and satisfying Keemun" - see this China Keemun Peony reviewed on the Sorori Tea Sisters blog.
A wonderful discovery "This tea was a wonderful discovery for me and has tempted me to try other Chinese black teas. The leaves are really neat and fine in the bag and the aroma is fantastic. Upon tasting this tea I was immediately converted to the flavours of the far East and can't wait to try other varieties.
Affordable great tea for everyday "This will become one of my staples, I like to have big flavours.
Your 'Staple' Tea with Rich, Calm Tones "This is an everyday 'staple' tea with rich, deep and calm tones that have an almost-chocolatey taste. It is very smooth and seems to be entirely without tannins. Just what you want on any day, but with an intriguing taste that appeals to the person with a slight sweet tooth. Entirely recommended.
A favourite "this is my favourite tea for everyday drinking. I am never without it. It has a lovely Keemun character: smooth, rich, deep but never bitter. Lightly floral but not scented. Equally good with milk if preferred.
Tea from Grey's Teas
Our teas are loose leaf and we specialise in large leaf grades. All are made using traditional orthodox methods. Our teas are from named tea gardens or defined areas of origin.
Sourcing our tea
Keemun Peony has been chosen for its distinctive, balanced flavour, aroma and appearance. Our tea is carefully sourced from long-established shippers. We can therefore guarantee the quality and origin of each tea and that it conforms to UK food and drink health regulations and our own demanding grading requirements.
The benefits of loose leaf tea
This loose leaf tea enables the full flavour characteristics of the tea to infuse. This tea is chosen for its high grade which imparts the flavour and aroma characteristics for which this tea is best known. A little extra time is necessary when infusing large leaf grades but you will be rewarded with a superior, more balanced cup. You will be well rewarded for your patience!
Packing options
There are generally several packing options to choose from. These are 60 grams, 125 grams and 250 grams, the default being 125 grams in a packet. Our silver-coloured packets are a triple laminate of paper, foil and cellophane, specifically designed for tea. Alternatively, you can select a tin caddy for your tea. These square, silver coloured caddies have hinged lids. Again, 60 gram, 125 gram and 250 gram options are generally available as options which can be selected from the drop-down list. Packets and caddies have full-colour labels.
Delivery options
For delivery our standard shipping is second class post unless you choose an alternative option such as first class post or courier. Free UK shipping is available for orders over £30 and free first class post can be chosen for orders over £50.
Storing your tea
Store your tea with care by ensuring it is stored air-tight, away from heat, light, moisture and strong aromas. Our standard best-before period is one year from packing and all teas are packed to order.
A guide to our tea
At the checkout you may choose to receive a free, full-colour, eight-page guide to our tea. For more information about buying our loose leaf teas see our page How to Buy the Best Loose Leaf Tea.

Product: A new one for me and please bear in mind that I regularly drink Grey’s China green, so what I say about China Keemun Peony will be coloured by my comparing it with Chun Mee Moon Palace. To me, Grey’s China Keemun Peony black tea has a smokey aroma, but, oddly, not a smokey flavour. I agree that its favour is rich and toasty and find it has astringency and something about it of red wine. I love the smokey promise and particularly the lingering after-taste, which is wonderfully clean.Service: Smashing teas at affordable prices!

Unlike several Keemun teas I have tried, this one has a distinct, slightly smoky flavour which I find delightful. I shall definitely buy it again.

This was our first Chinese Black Tea and we liked it a lot. As the description states it is best as an afternoon or evening tea as it is light and slightly flowery but we still enjoyed it with breakfast. Also it passed the important second watering test providing a still pleasant drink after topping the pot back up.

A delightful tea – complex, refreshing and quite dry on the finish with a hint of bitterness.

Service: As usual, the tea arrived quickly, in a lovely pizza-style box, inside which are the wonderful 3-layer tea bags (paper, aluminium foil & mylar). BTW I HATE it when the website questions my spelling of aluminium. This is the bloody UK, twerps!
But to continue.
The Ti Kuan Yin (Tie Guan Yin, fooh!) is superb, a hearty greenish oolong. The Darj. is a repeat purchase, well-known on my shelf. The Keemun I haven’t tasted for decades, & am looking forward to renewing my acquaintance. And the Oodoowerre… I am keenly anticipating this.
I shall report on the Greys webite in due course.

Product: Elegant interesting tea. A bit more exotic than most Indian and Ceylon teas. Preferred this to the more expensive Mao Feng.
Service: Prompt service. Well presented packaging.

I use this tea to make up a Russian Caravan with Oolong and Lapsang. I wouldn’t drink it on it’s own, but in the mix it make a tea that I much enjoy. I like that the different leaf shapes mean that you never get quite the same mix or flavour each time. And, of course, Greys service is always prompt and efficient..

Service: I have tried three other online sources for loose leaf tea and Greys had the selection of teas I wanted. I liked the website and information about the teas, but it would have been helpful to see the price before clicking to get the details for a particular tea. It was the best experience for buying teas on line and I shall stick to Greys for future purchases.
