Yunnan Black Tea: thick buds & soft leaves from SW China.

This great Yunnan  black tea yields a lovely, malty, spicy, robust tasting tea with a deliciously heady aroma. It is akin to Assam but with a classic blacker leaf and more complexity. Yunnan, in South West China is near the Burmese border. This is a large-leaf FOP grade tea. Try with a dash of milk. Use one teaspoon per person and one for the pot. Infuse for four minutes.

Deep-Toned Smoky Tea "A superb Yunnan Black tea, with its characteristic smoky flavour and deep notes. Practically no tannins and very 'clean' on the palate. Can be drunk black. Or if you fancy the taste of 'Thai Iced Tea', try this with milk and sugar. Indispensable on a warm summer afternoon."

Tea from Grey's Teas

Our teas are loose leaf and we specialise in large leaf grades. All are made using traditional orthodox methods. Our teas are from named tea gardens or defined areas of origin.

Sourcing our tea

This Yunnan black tea has been chosen for its distinctive, balanced flavour, aroma and appearance. Our tea is carefully sourced from long-established shippers. We can therefore guarantee the quality and origin of each tea and that it conforms to UK food and drink health regulations and our own demanding grading requirements.

The benefits of loose leaf tea

This loose leaf tea enables the full flavour characteristics of the tea to infuse. This tea is chosen for its high grade which imparts the flavour and aroma characteristics for which this tea is best known. A little extra time is necessary when infusing large leaf grades but you will be rewarded with a superior, more balanced cup. You will be well rewarded for your patience!

These square, silver coloured caddies have hinged lids. Again, 60 gram, 125 gram and 250 gram options are generally available as options which can be selected from the drop-down list. Packets and caddies have full-colour labels.

  7. Christine Barnett (verified owner)

Product: A lovely Yunnan which can be drunk at any time during the day. I have tried other Yunnan varieties, but I this one is my favourite by far.
Service: A tea which I had ordered online was actually out of stock. Mr. Grey telephoned me straight away to inform me and offered either a substitute or a later receipt of the tea involved. It was nice to be telephoned about the item involved rather than find out when the rest of the order arrived.

  8. CHRIS HOLLICK (verified owner)

Now a firm favourite. Service and quality of product always of a high standard.

  34. Bernise Williams (verified owner)

This is my third review, greys teas is the only place we can buy our favourite Yunnan tea! Keep it coming!!

  35. Chris (verified owner)

Good value quality tea. Appealing smoky notes

  36. Colin (verified owner)

I find only one simple way to describe this black tea – Gunpowder, even though that is a green tea.
Being a tea-heathen, I like gunpowder with just a splash of milk and this is no different. It has very much the same smokey hints of gunpowder, but with the very feintest hint of malt and a darker liquor. I ought to make a cup of each to compare them side by side, but so far have not.
Very nice at any time of day.
